Preview

The preview pane sits to the right of the editor and shows you roughly what the page will look like. “Roughly” because Emet doesn’t have Hugo, and Hugo is what turns your Markdown into a page. There are two ways round that:

  • The CSS preview renders your Markdown in the browser and dresses it in your site’s own stylesheets. It works everywhere, updates as you type and is close enough for writing.
  • The Hugo server preview shows the real page from a running hugo server. It’s exact, but it needs Hugo on the machine, so it’s only available in the desktop app and in local development.

Shortcodes are the awkward part of either approach, since their output lives in templates Emet can’t run. Template interpolation explains how far the CSS preview gets with them.

The Preview heading at the top of the pane collapses and expands it. To get rid of the pane altogether, there’s Hide Preview Panel in the user menu at the top right.
